well it would be cool to be able to go to the nether for training, gold, nether rack, brick, and warts.
also although the nether may not be relevant to Pokemon, it is relevant to minecraft like having homes, the wild,  having items,  having other trainers, changing the world, crafting, fighting other players and many other things in minecraft that aren't very Pokemon related, so just cause its not pokemon related it doesn't mean it shouldn't be there.
oh course there may be other issues related to having the nether.

I've rethought this idea over, and I think it should be a donator perk... as for the pokemon to nether connection, it can be one of those special realms that almost every pokemon game has...

I approve nether access if you have certain requirements.

I suggest these:
You must have donated at least 50$.
You must have played on the server for at least 9 months.
Your mcmmo power level should be at least 6000.
You must be a mod.
Your full minecraft name should contain at least 1 of each of the following characters: V I T O 3 2.

Those requirements seem fair in my opinion.

There is only a few items to obtain from the Nether, their worth should be of little concern, unless you're one of those people that likes to decorate with nether brick , the main thing in the nether would be the ability to obtain nether wart, and expand the boundaries of the wild, because lets face it.... the wilds are kind of screwed up, they last for about a month before a huge crater is made and then filled with water....etc(you all know the rest :P)

Those few blocks are currently some of the rarest blocks on the server.
