Want to add a neat twist to Elite 4 fights?

In Minecraft 1.4, according to screenshots, there is a new kind of "buff" ability with beacons and diamond pyramids or something like that:

Why not let challengers bring their own crafted "beacon block" to place in the pyramids around the fight arenas, choosing their extra buff? It could be like "types" in Pokemon - Dark, Psychic, Grass, etc... But instead it's Haste, Superjump, Resistance, Speed, or Strength. You bring your own "type" to the challenge.
 
Ideas? Or would it be too hard to construct?

Effects last like 10 seconds... And It affects a radius, not just the player, so I can imagine both players getting the buff.

No Tene, that's not how they work.

Basically, the radius does have an effect, however that's for how strong the potion effect is. There is no limit on the effect.

Oh, when i played with it in single player, the effects lasted 8 seconds...

It says 8 seconds, but it lasts as long as you're in the radius

No. Only the player who put the item in the beacon.
