Ummm... What is Pokémon MineCraft?

Hi guys,
Some how my 7 yr old has become obsessed with Pokemon Minecraft. He quite happily sits watching some very strange YouTube vids of people building stuff 

So after a couple of weeks i thought i would buy him the game, but from what i understand Pokémon Minecraft can only be played on an x-box? We have a ps3, Wii & a DS.

So i want to try and access it online, but just do not understand how / where you can play the game online. I have googled it and can find forums, building packs, vids etc, but where do i go to actually play?

I know it may sound like a really silly question, but if someone could give me some (really simple) pointers on how to get started i would be really, really grateful
