Basically like Facebook. Instead, you follow instead of add as friends.
So you can keep up to date into their lives, or in this case, the server.

I like to think of it as a blog where all posts must be under 300 letters and you can 'follow' ppl u like which pretty much adds them to a facebook wall type thing
