I just thought of something. Why do we have "obstacles" when they are so strong? Why not just murder people in a line until they get the hint?

In response to 1ce, the reason why is in the pokemon games, there were other trainers you had to challenge, therefore there are "obstacles" to replace this, I guess if a gym leader really wanted too, they could just make an epic, really hard arena and just challenge through that.
