Why does it need camera access? To send photos to people you talk to. Wifi settings? So it can tell you 'You're not on wifi, would you like to enable it to send a message?' and turn it on for you. Contact info? So you can call the person from inside the app instead of leaving it and navigating to their name in your Contacts app. It makes a lot more sense than "Facebook is the next Big Brother"
The real worry isn't Facebook, it's other apps that can get that information for malicious purposes using the same fine print that no one reads. If people don't read the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, or End User Licence Agreement for everything, other apps could easily access the same things and actually cause harm.
I apologize if this seems aggressive, this is simply the 5th post I've seen on this topic today, and I really want people to understand the more likely truth.
