the ending was kinda fucked up when it went Otonashi thank you and then she told him that she got his heart literately, my  Arceus  what is wrong with japan by the way I showed my brother turns out he's already watched it

My theory is that Otonashi didn't go to that world before Kanade. Obviously, he died before her because that is how she got his heart. Kanade's job was to go to that world to "Thank" Otonashi for the heart that extended her life. He had to go to that world to that Kanade's job could be fulfilled. He may not have had any regrets but it must have been necessary for him to be there so that Kanade could move on. After Kanade had thanked Otonashi, she left that world and him as well. Sure, the ending was a bit weird but Otonashi loved her in a world where love doesn't exist.

I belive Otonashi did have one regret that was fulfilled never being able to see the person he saved and when she told him that thats how he was able to disappear.
