It's a Shaman King thing.  After Tao Ren and Yoh defeat Ren's father, they all have dinner with Ren's family.  His grandfather said that they were once considered evil, but evil doesn't truly exist because "evil" is defined as the opposite of "good" and "good" is defined as the opposite of "evil".  Since they define each other, what would one be without the other?  it would be nothing. there would be no good or evil.  This is the same with all opposites such as happiness and sadness, beauty and ugliness, etc.  All opposites are in a constant battle, but they have the same force so neither one will win.  Therefore, they're balanced. The good and the evil. The light and dark. They're all equivalent, so they're balanced and if one goes away, the other doesn't exist because they're opposites.
