After Spain's shocking defeat to the Netherlands, I think its all down to Brazil, Germany and Argentina. But I think Germany might have this one.

I don't care about sports too much to begin with, but when Brazil overspent on everything, built a $300 million dollar stadium for ONE GAME, and built 12-13 (I forgot the numbers, but it's somewhere around that) stadiums while their people are already suffering with EXTREMELY high taxes and poverty, it doesn't make sense to make this a celebration.  And in Qatar, they're essentially using slave labor to build their stadiums and thousands of people are going to die while building them.  I'm considering it slave labor because the bosses take away their passports and pay them shit wages until it's done.  They were also on the bottom of the list for the 2022 world cup, but they bribed the judges so they are now going to host it.
Tl;dr: Brazil is corrupt with this, FIFA is corrupt in this, and so is Qatar.

Not sure if you knew this, but Africa did it the last world cup. They are most likely in more poverty then they were, and Africa is still using the stadium. Stadiums aren't just cool-looking wastes of money. They can be used afterwards to get a good amount of money from sports games. In other words, they can collect money for those "slave labor" or "overspending-on-stadiums" countries. For the slave labour, there isn't much we can do. I believe that China treated their "employees" worst than Brazil would treat theirs.

They said that they have no intention of using the stadiums anymore.  And you don't need that many stadiums.  Plus, Brazil's tax situation is already bad enough.  It's cheaper to get on a plane to the U.S., buy an iphone, stay for a few days, and then go back, than it is to buy an iphone in brazil.
That's why there have been so many riots in Brazil.  The people don't want to pay for some stupid soccer tournament and FIFA actually has something in their contract where all the profits within a certain radius go to FIFA, so it's not going to the people of Brazil.

Many people were forced out of their homes to build the stadium, and didn't even think "what would it be like to be them at this point?". There are many bad qualities of the world cup and I think i agree with Saha here. They took a few years to build the stadium when those few years could be used to help millions of people in poverty and those who have no home, but they continue to help the fortunate by entertaining them. Tymac, what you said about helping people in need after they gain money from the stadium matches, put yourself in their shoes. Imagine someone telling you "Hey I know your in poverty but we only have enough money to build the world cup stadium and the Olympic stadium and not help you, but after about 3-4 years we will be able to help. Just wait till then ok?". I think i have made my point clear enough.

I'm not saying that the World Cup will help with poverty at all. But if Brazil's stupid leader wanted to have the World Cup so badly, he/she should have thought more. But I think of the World Cup as kind of a loan. All the tourists combined with the stadiums uses afterwards can get money back. I just feel as if Brazil wanted to have home-ground so it could win easier in the World Cup. And if they won, they can get lots of bragging rights with all the European countries. I just feel it is more of a publicity stunt more than ever. And I feel Brazil shouldn't try to kick people out of their homes, but it is just life. For example, the United States wants the Olympics held in New York City. Just imagine how many people would need to be kicked out of their homes, and how many people would end up homeless.Near I live, back long ago, they kicked people out from their houses in order to make many water-ways.

I personally didn't know about all the poverty there, and I don't agree with it either, but if Brazil's leader wanted to do that, so be it. We can't change it especially since all the arenas have been built and are being used. We can't give those people back their homes. "It is what it is." I know I wouldn't like to be in that position, but we can't really do anything to help. We can protest all we like, but not much would come against us with Brazil.
